Irritating Sunspear rank for old char's ?
Well, NF looks great but there's 1 thing I really and I mean really start too hate and its getting that sunspear rank for "Old" char's. I am a bit "older" then the common gameplayer so my time is also precious. So why do I have too hop around doing, from my point seeing, useless quests ?
I mean, comon arenanet, after playing 1.5 year with my 4 base and 0.5 year with my 5 factions char ... I think I learned too play with them for now ...
Without blowing up I think I loose like 20 hours hopping around doing the same useless quests and then I didn't start my other char's in NF ...
Is this done too "stretch" the game or just, beside the AI, also nerf the players?
From my point it just spoils a beautiful campaign. Some will say: "Its for leveling your heroes" but they could give lvl20 heroes for "old school" char's. If I wanna see the hole game and want too lvl with heroes I simply start a new char (wich I have done cause I allways want too see 1 time the hole game)
Any1 else "nerfed" by this ?
Greets @ all from Belgium.

20 hours? Are you kidding me? 2.5k is done in a few hours with a "old" char, just do some quests, talk to all the priests and you're there. I find it less annoying and less time-consuming than the 10k faction grind in Factions.

In factions its different, once obtained the 10k faction, U can use it for all your other char's in case u didn't figured that out yet

how does it appear longer? if you finish the game and just talk to a few priests and do just a tenth of the quests available you will get tons of sunspear points

What does how long you've been playing GW have to do with anything?
Last time I check, I still have to play any games from the beginning NO MATTER how many times I've completed the last game in the series.
You can use your old chars in all GW games. Don't you think that's very good already?

Doing quests and getting bounties on the way, my Tyrian Monk got general in a couple of hours. It's not hard at all.

yup...
I've been 'strolling' around in Elona for a good 10 days now, no stress and got 4800+ sunspear points.
I didn't even break a sweat.

Question: What makes a quest "useful" for you?

Because you know they want you to play the game instead of getting someone to run you to all the missions.
Quests are part of the game. End of.

Well, I'm "playing" through "Nightfall" with my "Canthan Mesmer" and it "really" didn't take me much time to "attain" the rank of "Sunspear General".
I did a few "quests" in Istan, but got alot of it through 2 or 3 full "clears" of "Arjkawhatever" near the "Sunspear Command Post". Doing the "bounties" is very easy, and also nets you quite a bit of "gold". I'd say it must have only taken 2 hours "total".

You know after reading this thread, it would be kind of cool if Factions had the same deal for getting luxxon and kurzick points.
I know they had other ways to gain faction besides quests and AB, but getting a little bit of faction for kills while PvEing would be cool.
Other than that I got a whole mess of Sunspear points just going skill capping all over the map, it added up quickly.
In fact just playing the game and getting the bounty's makes it an easy process. Hmm.

Why do you have more than one character then?
If you don't want to play the game with more than one character don't create more than one. This has been discussed on another thread - Getting to general on a non elonian character merely requires you explore all the areas fully and take the quests as they become available.
There is no grind, in fact it has taken me longer playing my Nightfall characters (getting 1 point per kill) to get to captain than it did for my Tyrian characters (4 points per kill) to get to general.

I don't think I'll ever understand people who make several characters, and then complain about how they don't have enough time to play them all/don't want to play the same game over and over with each of them.
Tell me, in which game could you be able to make a new character that has everything and can go to end-game simply because you've completed the game once? (Cheat in off-line games doesn't count, please)

Can you imagine having to get all the skills needed for you heroes as well?
I think its a nice touch that they progress with you but the come full of skills from your previous hard work.
My guys already had elites when they where just lvl 3, and I had no skills to talk about lol.
I just made me a paragon to try out and a tank cause I love tanking but I will just bring all the others up to speed before I worry about a Dervish.
It's all good.
Quick progression would be more boring and you would always be looking for something new to do.

Whenever you go questing make sure you talk to priests so you can get the 'hunt's. Kill the creatures for that hunt will earn you sunspear points. I've only spent maybe 8 hours playing NF (on and off) and I'm only like 1k points away from Cestallan or whatever the rank is at 7500 points. I don't feel any grind at all, but maybe thats because I like to go out and kill stuff and clear map (I'm playing on my Tyrian monk btw....a healing monk that likes to kill, seems like an oxymoron dont it?). I also don't mind that I will have to do this for every character either, I have to clear the map anyway. *shrug*
Oh and realoddsman, try getting the title on 40 characters.

I wish Sunspear points were account-wide. I have 10 PvE chars in total so I'll have to spend about 20-25 hours in total getting them all up to 2.5k points if I want them to get through the game and cap their respective profession elite skills.

I concur. Starting in Yohlon Haven, do all the side quests and then the primary. Talk to a priest every time you go out and you will easily make enough sunspear points for whatever rank you need. You won't even have to pay attention to points. If you skip the quests, you will essentially have to farm for suspear points. So might as well just do the quests. Nightfall is apparently designed for people to play it. I don't have a problem with that.
